Chapter 12 - The Review of the Playtest - 25/02/23

Hello guys and welcome back to my blog. Today I want to talk about the outcome of the playtest that I have released a few weeks ago.

Firstly, if anyone has played and tested my game, I just want to thank you for playing my playtest. Also, if anyone gave me feedback from the questionnaire I have conducted, an extra massive thank you for that. You were able to help me by spotting my mistakes and I was able to fix and improve most of them so the project can be better than it was before. In the future, there will be another playtest sometime in Mid-April so stay tuned for that. But I want to some of the feedback that I got given so far.

First of all, it seems that everyone has attended this questionnaire tired out the solo matches in the game. Then I asked a follow-up question about AI. Even though most people found the AI tough and fun to play against, the AI would sometimes get stuck on objects including in stages like Sky Dungeon Zone, and Dawn Town and acted a bit buggy under the moving platform in Dry Desert Hills. All of those are fixed now currently.

As I was going through the results of the questionnaire, I can see there is a Lloyd fandom going on here as everyone seems to love his moveset especially his Magical Power attack which is the tornado.

However, the worst character during the playtest seems to be Kyle. It's mainly because Kyle's attack wouldn't work all the time and his moveset is pretty much lacking with something. Well, I've been working on Kyle after the playtest now he is much better now and has given him a 1-2-3 hit combo system which I will go over in future blogs. Also, Robin is not too far behind and everyone found her Magical Power attack pretty weak and using the basic arrow attack tricky to use.

For the best-designed stage during the playtest, it seems that Dawn Town takes the crown here and everyone found it really nice and loved the visuals of the stage. Also, everyone here felt it was the most polished out of the four which is great to see.

However, the worst stage during the playtest seems to be Gloomy Forest. It's mainly because it was too dark and artificial. I haven't gone through with the stage again yet but I'll do so in the future and try to brighten up the stage a little if I can. Also, Dry Desert Hills is not too far behind and everyone who voted for it through the rocks is too big and it covers up the stage itself. I've made the rocks at the front smaller now but let me tell you something, getting the foreground right can be pretty tricky sometimes.

There were some bugs and glitches that were found during the playtest such as the animations are often desynced from character positions which have been fixed now, hurt boxes seem to stay around after attacks sometimes, resulting in you just needing to walk into an opponent which I need to fix later now, and when one controller is plugged in, playing local results in the controller controlling player 2 which I tried to fix before (as it only happens for Dawn Town) but haven't fixed it yet.

Also, I'm glad that everyone left other suggestions when I asked "Any other feedback you would like to give about the playtest?" Really will look into those.

Also, that's the blog for today. Hope you enjoyed this blog and stay tuned for more blogs.
